Steve and Mary’s vision and hearts’ cry is to see people made whole in their personal lives, marriages and families. Countless individuals have been affected by Steve and Mary’s training, whether it is one-on-one or through seminars, conferences, marriage retreats and written materials. They travel regularly, ministering in churches, college campuses and communities across the nation and internationally, giving people the various leadership and counseling tools they need.
Steve and Mary wrote Called Together, a unique pre and postmarital workbook designed for couple-to-couple mentoring use. Called Together Mentor’s Seminar is free online here. Their follow-up book, Staying Together, Marriage: A Lifelong Affair is designed to challenge and change married couples. Steve’s newest book, soon to be released is titled, Identity: The Distinctiveness of You. Steve also authored a series of booklets called People Helping People on counseling topics suitable for small groups. He co-authored the book The Biblical Role of Elders for Today’s Church and Battle Cry for Your Marriage. He is the author of the books Counseling Basics and In Pursuit of Obedience. Steve has had articles published in Ministries Today magazine.
Steve and Mary have been married for 45 years and have three married children. They enjoy three grandchildren. Their home is in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.

I cannot tell you how many blogs I read that talk about…NOTHING!! I couldn’t care less that a person has had a peach for breakfast or that they’re mad at the guy who cut them off on the road. It is a blessing to read a blog of substance that is written in a great style and length. Go Steve, GO!

Was curious. Wish we had this when Don and I were courting. Was just in the Rocky Mountains this past weekend. Had a great time scrap-booking with friends at Kickin’ Back Inn. Hunted briefly with a camera. Hi to Mary.

Should be in bed asleep Steve, but checked out DCFI’s website for 1st time this eve and found such wonderful posts on your blog. Don’t know if you remember me, Anne-Marie, and my husband Richard (from Bethel Church in SC)? Richard took a job upstate about an hour and a half a way and comes home when he can. We are waiting on God re: the sale of our home. I am in my 4th year of homeschooling our 2 children. I find your writings and scripture verses encouraging and will have to come back here again to read more! I will be attending my 1st “Encounter” weekend in April 2012 and am excited to see what God has planned for me (and my family). Hello and blessings to you and Mary!

Steve – I just wanted to thank you for your faithfulness. You came and spoke to the Broadlands Community Church’s Mens’ Retreat and introduced us to the book “Killing the Lion”. I read it that night and, from that day have been set free from bondage to sin in a way that I could not believe was possible.
Since that time I have received the gift of tongues and am experiencing Joel Chapter 2 on a regular basis (because I’m both a young man and an old man, depending on whether you’re my dad or my son).
My life is radically different thanks to your faithfulness in addressing the hard, heart issues. I wanted to thank you because I’m pretty sure that I would not be where I am today (after 30 years as a Christian) without your ministry that evening.

I have used your “Called Together” resource to counsel over a dozen couples so far. I will soon be counseling a middle age couple and I am looking for a your direction. They are currently living together and each one has been through divorce. While the “called together” resource has all the necessary content including a “When Christians Remarry” section, I wonder if you would recommend an alternative workbook for them to go through with me?

Thanks for the great question. I am unsure of an answer for you. Called Together is the only premarital workbook that I know of with addendums on remarriage. There are some really challenging exercises in that section for premarital and postmarital counseling. That said, the first area to deal with would be their cohabitation, as we address in the book.
